Vitamin D3 - Research completed in 2005 by a Harvard University School of Public Health fellow showed that men with higher levels of vitamin D were only half as likely to develop aggressive forms of prostate cancer as those with lesser amounts. This research is a follow-up to observations that cancer rates are lower in countries with sunnier climates. The body requires sunlight to manufacture vitamin D. This year a study in Japan validated the use of green tea for prostate health. Participants with a high risk for developing prostate cancer were split into two groups. One was given a special green tea extract supplement for one year and the control group, a placebo. After one year, 30% of the placebo control group developed prostate cancer (consistent with previous data) and only 3% of the group taking green tea developed prostate cancer. The risk of developing the disease was reduced by 90%!
