Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine released the results of a study that demonstrates the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids on your brain function.
In the study of 106 healthy adults, researchers found that participants who had low levels of omega-3 fatty acids were more likely to report mild or moderate symptoms of depression, a more negative outlook and be more impulsive.
On the other hand, those with higher blood levels of omega-3s were found to be more agreeable. In addition, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed those with higher omega-3 levels also had more grey matter in areas of the brain associated with emotional arousal and regulation.
According to the lead researcher, Sarah Conklin PhD, “previous studies have linked low levels of omega-3 to conditions such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse and attention deficit disorder. However, until now, few studies have shown that these relationships also occur in healthy adults.”?
This further adds to the mounting evidence that consuming omega-3 rich fish and fish oil supplements is critical to your brain function. In addition, omega-3 helps you maintain a healthy heart, joints and bones.
NatureCity® offers the first and only fish oil to attain the prestigious U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) certification for both purity and potency. It can be found in our TrueOmega-3™ product along with several other key ingredients for your brain and heart.
