Omega-3 Fatty Acids from Fish Oil Protect Your Eyes. Researchers from the University of Sydney found that higher intakes of omega-3 fats from fish oil reduced the risk of age-related maculopathy- which evolves to macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness. Consuming fish at least once a week dropped the risk by 40% and eating fish three times a week reduced the risk 75%. A separate new study by Harvard Medical School also found increased omega-3 and fish intake was associated with lower risk of macular degeneration. Both studies are published in the most recent issue of Archives of Ophthalmology.
