The Major Causes of Hair Loss

1) As you age blood flow in your scalp declines. This deprives fol­licles of needed nutrients and oxygen. Researchers at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan showed that this is the case. They found that blood flow was as much as 40% lower in balding areas of the scalp compared to areas growing healthy hair.

2) The conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) leads to destruction of hair follicles. Once made by your body, DHT attaches to hair follicles and causes them to shrink. This makes hair growth impossible. Scientists at the University of Vienna in Austria published at study that found DHT production rates were on average 4 times higher in balding males compared to non-balding males.

3) Scalp inflammation caused by bacteria and “free radicals” impedes hair growth. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania dem­onstrated this effect. They tested 25 balding and non-balding men. The scientists found there was significantly more inflammation on the scalps of balding males compared to non-bald­ing peers.

4) Nutritional deficiencies starve hair follicles of the “food” they need to grow healthy hair. Unfortunately, the American diet is among the worst at helping your body grow hair. It contains high amounts of ani­mal fat which increases DHT levels. And many of your fruits and vegetables are grown in nutrient depleted soil.
