3 Grams of Omega-3’s Daily May Help Support Healthy Blood Pressure
Previous studies have suggested that omega-3 fatty acids may help to maintain healthy blood pressure. According to a new study, approximately 3 grams of omega-3’s daily may be the optimal dose to help improve blood pressure levels.
For their study, researchers from the Macau University of Science and Technology used data from 71 clinical trials. The clinical trials looked at the association between omega-3 consumption and blood pressure levels. They included approximately 5,000 participants between the ages of 22 and 86 who took omega-3 supplements for an average of 10 weeks.
Participants who consumed between 2 and 3 grams of omega-3’s daily showed reduced blood pressure levels of an average 2 mm Hg compared to those who did not consume omega-3’s. Participants with high blood pressure who consumed 3 grams of omega-3’s daily saw an average decrease of 4.5 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure. Participants with high blood pressure who consumed 5 grams of omega-3’s daily saw an average decrease of 4 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure
The study was published on June 1, 2022 in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Lycopene was found to help support healthy blood pressure in a previous study.
