Cannabidiol May Help Improve Sleep Quality and Reduce Appetite
Cannabidiol (CBD) is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis. It is derived directly from the hemp plant. According to a new study, supplementation with a hemp-derived CBD extract may help improve sleep quality and reduce appetite.
Sixty-five overweight but otherwise healthy adults participated in the study. They took a supplement containing 15 mg of hemp-derived CBD or a placebo daily for six weeks. Participants followed their normal diet and a routine of low intensity physical activity.
The researchers found that participants who took the CBD showed a 22% improvement in self-reported sleep quality, a 21.3% improvement in sleep quantity and 12.5% improvement in quality of life. They also showed an average 6.2% reduction in appetite. No adverse effects were reported.
The study was conducted by researchers from the Center for Applied Health Sciences. It was presented at the International Society of Sports Nutrition’s 16th Annual Conference and Expo held the week of June 13, 2019.
