Green Oat Extract May Help Improve Cognitive Performance
Green oat extract comes from the herb Avena sativa, and contains many nutrients such as antioxidants, flavonoids, and minerals. A new study suggests that green oat extract may help improve processing speed and accuracy.
Twenty young adults participated in the study. They were given 800 mg of green oat extract or a placebo. Cognitive function and task performance were evaluated at baseline and 1 hour after taking the supplement.
Participants in the green oat extract group saw an improvement in time to perform tasks compared to baseline. They also saw improvements in accuracy despite the faster performance time. No changes were seen in the placebo group.
The study was conducted by researchers from the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. It was published on October 1, 2021 in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience.
