Hops Benefits Continue to be Discovered
When most people think of hops they think of beer. Which certainly is a popular end product for this wholesome plant. But recent research demonstrates, there is a lot more to these flowers than adding flavor to your favorite malt beverage. In particular, hops has been shown to have direct anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.
Hops stops inflammation by blocking production of the pain causing enzymes COX-2 and 5-LOX. And hops effectively blocks COX-2 while having only a slight effect on the related COX-1 enzyme. This is important because the COX-1 enzyme protects your stomach lining from corrosive acids. The problem with aspirin, ibuprofen and similar NSAID drugs is they block BOTH COX-1 and COX-2. This directly causes acid burn, stomach ulcers and worse.
Research on hops has also indicated that it does not cause platelet "aggregation" or clumping that doomed the COX-2 drugs. Just the opposite, hops seems to slightly reduce clumping of platelets. And its sedative properties help relax blood vessels rather than constrict them. Now, scientists at Oregon State have shown that a hops extract may protect against prostate cancer and reduce symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Unfortunately just drinking beer will not provide enough of the protective hops compound (you'd need to drink 17 beers a day!).
Hops extract is one of the key ingredients in NatureCity's joint and muscle supplement, Alotin HATM. For more information on the health benefits of hops and other essential nutrients in Alotin HATM, please contact one of your NatureCity customer service representatives at 1-800-593-2563.
