Patented Probiotic May Help Improve Protein Absorption From Plant Sources
BC30 is a patented strain of a spore-forming probiotic bacteria that remains viable through most manufacturing processes. According to a recent study, BC30 may help improve protein absorption from plant-based sources.
30 healthy women between the ages of 50 and 70 participated in the study. Half consumed a plant-based drink (sourced from pea and rice proteins) that contained 20 grams of protein and 1 billion CFUs of BC30 daily for 2 weeks. The other half consumed the same plant-based drink without BC30. Blood samples were used to measure amino acid concentrations.
Participants in the BC30 had significantly greater levels of total amino acids and total essential amino acids compared to the placebo group. They also had substantially higher levels of individual amino acids.
The study was conducted by researchers from Lindenwood University. It is currently in pre-publication.
Consuming protein from multiple sources was found to help support healthy blood pressure levels in a previous study.
