Pycnogenol May Help Relieve Restless Legs Syndrome Symptoms
Restless legs syndrome is a condition that causes an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, often disrupting sleep. According to a new study, Pycnogenol may help relieve symptoms of restless legs syndrome. Pycnogenol is an extract of French maritime pine bark with strong antioxidant properties.
Participants in the study included 45 healthy adults with an average age of 44 who had restless legs syndrome. They were given 150 mg of Pycnogenol or a placebo daily for 4 weeks. Both groups participated in a standard management plan which included 8 hours of sleep per day, mild, regular exercise, and vitamin C, niacin, and vitamin B supplements. Restless legs syndrome symptoms were evaluated at baseline and at the end of the study period.
Participants in the Pycnogenol group saw improvements in restless legs syndrome symptoms including sensations in the legs of creeping, crawling, and pulling. They also saw improved blood flow in the foot.
The study was conducted by researchers from Ch-Pe University. It was published in the June, 2022 edition of the journal Panminerva Medica.
