Rice Protein Provides Same Results As Whey Protein During Resistance Training

Rice protein is a vegan protein isolate that is an alternative to the more common whey and soy protein isolates. Brown rice can be treated with enzymes that will cause carbohydrates to separate from proteins. According to a recent study, rice protein is just as effective as whey protein in improving performance outcomes during resistance training.

Twenty-four healthy, resistance-trained men participated in the study. They were given 24 grams of rice protein or 24 grams of whey protein for 8 weeks. They completed a standardized resistance training program during the 8 weeks. Body composition, muscular strength, and endurance were evaluated at baseline and at the end of the study period.

The researchers found that both the rice protein and whey protein groups had similar results in body composition, muscle strength, and endurance. Changes in body mass, lean mass, and bench press strength were also similar between the two groups.

The study was conducted by researchers from Lindenwood University.It was published on December 1, 2020 in theJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
