L-arginine/ Silicon Supplement May Help Promote Cognitive Function and Immediate Memory
The L-arginine silicate ingredient, branded as Nitrosigine has previously been shown to support exercise performance and energy creation by helping to promote nitric oxide in the bloodstream. A new study with this ingredient found that acute supplementation may help promote cognitive function and immediate memory in young adults.
Nineteen adults with an average age of 21 participated in the study. They were given 1.5 grams of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate or a placebo. They performed the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) test and 2 digital cognitive assessments before consuming the supplement and 1 hour after consumption.
Participants in the supplement group saw an 11% increase in scores on the RBANS test. They also saw a 27% increase in immediate memory scores. The researchers attribute these results to an increase in nitric oxide levels.
The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Arkansas. It was published online ahead of print on November 26, 2021 in the journal Nutrients.
