CogniGrape®: The First Grape Extract Shown to Boost Cognitive Performance in Healthy Older Adults
Sicily is known for producing many nutrient rich – and delicious – fruits and vegetables.
Part of this is due very rich soil in the areas surrounding Mt. Etna, the main volcano in the Mediterranean region.
In addition, eastern Sicily is considered an optimal area to grow grapes because large diurnal temperature fluctuations (hot days, cold nights) cause an intense red pigmentation in the grape flesh.

Also important, this study used methods considered the “gold standard” to evaluate Cognigrape®.
For example, to test memory, the scientists used the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), which is comprised of 12 items measuring verbal and cognitive performance.
The MMSE scale is goes from zero to 30 points. If you score between 26 and 30, you’re considered to have normal cognitive function.
As you’d expect from a healthy group, the study participants at the start were already in the middle of the normal range with an average score of 27.2.
Yet Cognigrape® was able to push these folks toward the high end of the scale or an average of 28.5 after just 12 weeks. This is a remarkable result!

To further test the cognitive effects of Cognigrape®, they administered a second test – the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS).
RBANS tests several aspects of cognitive function including attention, language, immediate memory and delayed memory.

Like with the MMSE score, the placebo group did not improve on RBANS testing.

The real icing on the cake was the additional benefits in mood and anxiety levels.
Tot asses, the effects of Cognigrape® on emotions, the first test the used was the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). On this scale, any score above 8.0 indicates some degree of depression. Again, this study involved healthy individuals who weren’t depressed – as demonstrated by their relatively low BDI score of 4.5, on average.
Even so, those taking Cognigrape® experienced a significant improvement in mood over 12 weeks – as evidenced by their BDI declining 15.8%. Cognigrape® helped them feel better as they started remembering better.
What’s more, the Cognigrape® study also assessed anxiety levels using the HARS scale. This measures anxiety in 15 ways such as insomnia, mood, and feelings of tension and digestive disorders.
Once again, the results from taking Cognigrape® were remarkable. Over 12 weeks, HARS scores declined by an impressive 25%, indicating these folks were much less anxious.

The second clinical study, published in Food and Nutrition Sciences, compared the effects of 100mg of NeuroFactor™ versus drinking freshly brewed French Roast coffee made in a Keurig machine.

The scientists did one more interesting test. They took one of the participants taking NeuroFactor™, who had experienced a 54% increase in BDNF in the blood, and isolated tiny structures in the blood called exosomes.
Exosomes are relevant because they have the ability to cross your brain’s protective blood-brain barrier.
If the researchers could show that BDNF levels increased inside exosomes, then it lends credence to the notion that NeuroFactor™ can help get BDNF to where you need it most – your brain.
