Support Healthy Levels of Two Critical Antioxidants:
Glutathione and Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD)
TrueGreenTea with SOD™ is part of NatureCity’s “3-2-1” Detox” rotation designed to help support liver health (TrueMilkThistle and TrueALA are the other two products).
Two of the most important nutrients used by the liver are glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).
The liver relies heavily on glutathione to detoxify harmful molecules so they can be removed from your body. Unfortunately, glutathione levels steadily decline as you age. And taking a glutathione supplement isn’t much help because for the most part, it doesn’t survive the digestion process.
The type of green tea extract used in TrueGreenTea with SOD™ has been shown to help boost glutathione levels and antioxidant capacity in the blood.
SOD is found in large quantities in the liver. This enzyme is naturally found in all oxygen breathing organisms on the planet, and is widely regarded as one of the most important antioxidants in our bodies.
Taking SOD as a supplement would seem to be a good idea, but an affordable natural source of SOD hasn’t been readily available. The main reason why is because SOD is typically present in very small quantities in fruits and vegetables.
In 1989, some French melon producers were surprised by the long life of a new variety of cantaloupe melon. These new melons were living three to four times longer than other cantaloupe melons. A group of researchers at Bionov, a French natural ingredients company, spent the next several years trying to understand the longevity secret of this new melon variety.
Ultimately they found the answer. These melons had an exceptionally high content of SOD. In the melons, the high amount of SOD along with catalase (another potent antioxidant enzyme) preserves the melons by protecting them from the damaging effects of oxygen - before it starts. Bionov concentrated the melon juice to create Extramel®.
Finally, this formula provides 100mg of burdock root. Burdock has been used for many years in Asia to help “purify blood”. In TrueGreenTea™ with SOD, burdock root helps support the liver in removing toxins from the body.
High Potency, Decaffeinated Green Tea from Naturex![]() Green tea has become a popular beverage due to its ability to help protect the body from oxidative stress - and provide numerous health benefits. These benefits are largely due to the unique polyphenols found in tea - namely the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea. Research conducted by researchers at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and other institutions shows that green tea extract rich in EGCG can have a positive effect on numerous oxidative stress biomarkers. These include reduced gluatathione (GSH) levels and plasma antioxidant capacity. For TrueGreenTea™ with SOD, NatureCity uses a high quality green tea extract from one of the world’s premier suppliers of botanical ingredients, Naturex. This green tea extract is 95% polyphenols - with the EGCG representing over 40% of the powder. What’s more, less than 0.5% caffeine remains in the product (less than the typical decaffeinated green tea beverage). Naturex processes the green tea extract in Avignon, France using high quality Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze green tea leaves sourced by the Naturex professionals in China. Naturex uses water and ethanol to extract the polyphenols from the green tea leaves - and virtually no residue from the extraction is found in the final product. As important, the Naturex quality control team also carefully tests each batch for heavy metals and microbial counts to ensure the green tea extract complies with all safety standards. The Naturex quality control team tests the ingredient at every stage of the process: starting with raw materials, work in process and the final ingredients. Extramel®: The premier source of the antioxidant ”SOD”![]() In 1989, some French melon producers were surprised by the long life of a new variety of cantaloupe melon. These new melons were living three to four times longer than other cantaloupe melons. A group of researchers at a natural ingredients company in France called Bionov spent the next several years trying to understand the longevity secret of this new melon variety. Ultimately they found the answer. These melons had an exceptionally high content of a powerful antioxidant known as superoxide dismutase, or “SOD.” This enzyme is naturally found in all oxygen breathing organisms on the planet, and is widely regarded as one of the most important antioxidants in our bodies. In the melons, the high amount of SOD along with catalase (another potent antioxidant enzyme) preserves the melons by protecting them from the damaging effects of oxygen - before it starts. This last part is what makes SOD and catalase unique. They along with another enzyme, glutathione peroxidase, are primary antioxidants. This means they get involved at the starting point of the cellular oxidation process, and nip it in the bud. In other words, they are your first - and most important - line of defense against oxygen borne free radicals. Primary antioxidants are supported by secondary antioxidants such as vitamin E, vitamin C, polyphenols and glutathione. Relying too much on secondary antioxidants can tax your system over time - which is why you need both types of antioxidants. Taking SOD as a supplement would seem to be a good idea, but an affordable natural source of SOD hasn’t been readily available. The main reason why is because SOD is typically present in very small quantities in fruits and vegetables. The extraordinary high level of SOD in the French melons changed this - and the scientists at Bionov were able to concentrate the melon juice to create an extract called Extramel® - which provides a good source of both SOD and catalase. The non-GMO Extramel® is now being studied for a variety of health concerns including brain health, heart health, weight management, joint health and skin beauty. |
