Dear Friends,

Today we’re talking about one of the most critical nutrients for your brain — and one that most people simply don’t get enough of from food intake alone.

I’m referring to omega-3 fatty acids — specifically DHA and EPA — which play a key role in supporting your brain health, cognitive function, and healthy aging.

In past letters, we’ve discussed the importance of omega-3s for heart health,

longevity, even bone health – but we haven’t yet covered brain health, so that changes today.

Here’s the reality:  even if you’re eating a healthy diet, there’s a very good chance you’re not getting optimal amounts of omega-3s — and your brain may be feeling it.

That’s one of many reasons why a high-quality omega-3 supplement is always on our essential nutrients to supplement list.

In case you don’t know DHA and EPA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, and the best dietary sources are fatty fish like salmon, tuna, sardines, and anchovies.

DHA is Important – But EPA is Too

DHA is a major building block of the brain — it makes up about 25% of the total fat in our brain tissue.

That alone is a good signal that it must be pretty important to brain health and function.

DHA helps maintain the structure and flexibility of brain cell membranes — which are critical for healthy communication between brain cells.

In other words, DHA is like the scaffolding that supports your brain’s architecture.

EPA, on the other hand, helps support a healthy inflammation response, blood flow, and signaling in the brain — all of which are important for keeping our thinking sharp as we age.

Sometimes, you’ll hear DHA is more important for brain health and EPA is more important for heart health – the reality is we need both for brain and heart health.

Together, DHA and EPA help support memory, learning, focus, emotional balance, and overall cognitive performance.

They also help protect against the oxidative stress and excess inflammation that can accelerate brain aging.

Research Supports Higher Omega-3 Levels

Numerous studies have linked increased levels of omega-3s to greater brain volume and cognitive performance.

A recent example of this was a study published in the journal Brain Sciences.

In this study researchers took MRI brain scans and did numerous other tests on senior adults, who were 76 years old on average, and found higher omega-3 levels were associated with better memory, and brain processing speed.

In addition, the brain scans linked higher omega-3 levels to more favorable structural brain measures, including greater white matter volume - an important indicator of brain health.

Why do Most People Fall Short on DHA and EPA?

The answer is pretty simple — we just don’t eat enough fish.

Most dietary guidelines recommend at least two servings of fatty fish per week, but most Americans average closer to two servings per month.

And even if you do eat fish, the omega-3 content can vary based on the species, how it’s prepared, and even where it’s sourced.

One of the more helpful tools to help you figure out if your omega-3 intake is adequate is called the Omega-3 Index.

This involves a blood test that measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in your red blood cell membranes.  It just involves a few drops of blood that you can mail in to the lab from home.

What’s the Ideal Omega-3 Index Range?

An ideal Omega-3 Index reading is 8% to 12%, but many Americans test around 4 to 6%. That’s well below the target range.

In general, and this is very general, it’s recommended we need around 1,000mg daily combined of EPA and DHA to keep the Omega-3 blood index in an ideal range.

But because Americans eat relatively little fish, the average daily consumption from diet is estimated to be only 100mg per day.   That’s a very significant shortfall.

This is a key reason why omega-3 supplements with EPA and DHA are recommended, including by many doctors.

However, to help your brain, heart and boost your Omega-3 index, you need the omega-3s from your supplements to reach your bloodstream.

And, frankly, many fish oil supplements don’t deliver.

Often their focus is purity, which is also important, but equally important is the absorption of the EPA and DHA into the bloodstream. Else, you’re just wasting money.

That’s what sets our TrueOmega-3 supplement apart from others – you get purity and up to 6.0x better absorption and bioavailability compared to regular fish oil.

Plus, we addressed my mother’s biggest complaint about fish oil supplements, which many others share – fishy burps or repeating.

With TrueOmega-3, you won’t experience fishy burps or repeating.

This supplement combines pure AlaskOmega fish oil with the advanced AquaCelle delivery system, that essentially does the prep work for your body so the omega-3s can be more easily absorbed.

Summarizing the Key Features of TrueOmega-3

Each serving of TrueOmega-3 delivers 910 milligrams of EPA and DHA — in just two softgels.  That combined with diet should allow you to reach the 1,000mg target on most days.

As important, you’re actually absorbing the omega-3s and putting them to work thanks to the AquaCelle delivery system.

This natural emulsifier helps your body absorb the omega-3s up to 6.0x better than standard fish oil according to a published research study.

That’s a level that can help move your Omega-3 Index in the right direction and keep it there consistently.

And because of AquaCelle’s emulsification, it helps eliminate fishy burps or aftertaste — a common reason people stop taking fish oil supplements.

Importantly, the fish oil is not made from random fish scraps or whole fish processed overseas.

It’s made from leftover fillet trimmings — the fish already being used for food — which means no fish are caught just for oil (supports sustainability).

And it’s 100% harvested and processed right in the U.S., ensuring full traceability, purity and quality.

Another thing that sets TrueOmega-3 apart is freshness. Omega-3 oils are prone to oxidation — which can reduce their effectiveness and produce an unpleasant smell or taste.

AlaskOmega is consistently tested for oxidation markers, and this oil far exceeds industry freshness standards — so with TrueOmega-3 you’re getting pure, clean and potent omega-3s that can actually do their job.

If supporting brain health, sharper thinking, and healthy aging is important to you — and I think it is for all of us — then making sure your omega-3 levels are in a healthy range is one of the best things you can do.

And with TrueOmega-3, we’ve made it easy to get the benefits of EPA and DHA every single day.

Yours for Good Health,
