Ashwaganda Product Sensoril® May Improve Cognitive Function
Ashwaganda is a traditional Indian herb that has been used in folk remedies for generations to help enhance memory and overall brain functioning. A recent study found that the ashwaganda extract branded as Sensoril® – the oldest branded form of ashwaganada in the United States - improved cognitive functioning in healthy adults.
Participants in the study included 20 people who were instructed to take either 500 mg of Sensoril® daily or a placebo twice daily for 14 days. The researchers measured attention, sensory motor performance, response speed, integration, visual-motor coordination, alertness, vigilance, selective capacity, and executive functions at the onset and the conclusion of the study.
This was followed by a 14 days washout period, after which the participants switched interventions. At the end of the second intervention period, the same tests were administered to them.
The researchers found that after taking the Sensoril®, participants’ test performance improved by an average of 5%. They feel these results show that ashwaganda extract can lead to better working memory, reaction time, and the ability to process and store information.
Researchers from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India, conducted the study. It was published on December 12, 2013, in Pharmacognosy Research.
Previous studies suggest that ashwagandha may help with memory, cognitive function and brain health, increase strength, and help with sexual dysfunction. The best way to consume ashwagandha is by taking a high quality supplement.
